"A lot of people still don't know we're open," said Daryl George, a teacher and the Vice President of the Friends of the Northvale Library. "It's an opportunity for enrichment and growth for people of all ages."
"We're trying to reteach patrons how to become really great library users. We're trying to get kids to get excited and bug their parents about coming to the library," said Marisa Hall, a youth services librarian who manages items from toddlers to teens.
The organization has blasted social media, among other efforts aimed at connecting 4,000 residents with the BCCLS system and other services since the library reopened as a municipal building last year.
Now, the organization wants to offer passes to the Intrepid Museum and the American Museum of Natural History, while creating more Makers Spaces. Organizers are also considering ESL classes and technology courses for seniors.
The organization took advantage of the Halloween season to connect with neighbors and ask them if they have registered.
"People look at it sometimes as a tax burden," George said. "But, if you learn to use your library card, you can meet people and save money with ebooks and emovies. It's a matter of knowing about these resources."
